At a glance
“We saw a drastic improvement in the speed of our close process.”Michael D’Anna, CFO, New-Indy Containerboard
The Situation
The US packaging manufacturer held financial information across several ERP systems and databases. Finance staff manually calculated profit and loss for each entity, adding effort before the business could use the information.
The original PDF identifies Dynamics GP, Sage and Amtech in the technology landscape.
What Was at Stake
The team needed one dependable data foundation for reporting. Period-end work also needed to give leadership a clearer view of progress and provide the board and tax team with useful outputs.
The Turning Point
After evaluating alternatives, New-Indy selected Solver for its implementation approach and integration with Power BI. The aim was to connect reporting to the existing systems and make financial information easier to use.
How the Reporting Environment Was Built
Entity data was brought into Solver, with dashboards providing visibility into financial performance. Staff developed their skills through Solver Academy and hands-on training.
The initial goal was to load 12 entities in six months. The source reports that the team felt comfortable with the data after eight months; these are separate milestones.
The Result
Reporting became faster and the period-end process more streamlined. Finance could create reports in a few clicks. The CFO could monitor closing progress through Power BI, and the tax team could obtain trial balances on demand.
The published story gives qualitative improvements, rather than a quantified reduction in close days or a cash ROI figure.
What They Can Do Now
- Work from a shared reporting foundation across entities.
- Create financial reports and share information with the board.
- Monitor closing performance using dashboards.
- Produce trial balances without repeating manual entity calculations.
Why It Worked
The solution fitted the existing technology landscape. Integration, training and attention to confidence in the data helped move the project beyond a software installation into a more usable reporting process.
What This Means for Manufacturing Groups in Ireland
For a group with entities on different ERP systems, the reporting problem often sits between systems. This story is useful when considering how consistent definitions, mappings and close outputs could give finance a clearer view across the group.
A worthwhile first step is to map which entities and systems feed each monthly report, then agree the reconciliations needed to trust a consolidated view.
